Happy 4th of July! I know I'm a little late posting but I'm sure that this recipe can still be put into good use for the remainder of the summer. This has become something highly requested in our gatherings but funny thing is, I don't even eat them. Please, don't let that stop you though, because I'm told that they're absolutely fabulous. Which is probably why I continue to get asked to make them. I call them cheat baked beans because I don't make them at all from scratch. I don't think I even know anyone that makes baked beans from scratch anymore, besides the companies that can them. Anyway... they're the easiest thing to make and awesome. Obviously you may need to adjust for your taste but they're too easy not to try at least once.
Cheat Baked Beans (feeds 5 adults with leftovers) 3 28oz cans of your choice baked beans (we like Bush's) 3 packed tbsp brown sugar (light or dark) 1/2c your choice bbq sauce (we mix our own) 1/4c water 1 medium onion, finely chopped 1 lb smoked sausage chopped (preferable from the grill) Chop and saute your onions, set aside. In an oven proof pan mix together baked beans, brown sugar, bbq sauce, water, and onion. Mix in sausage and put into 375 degree oven until mix is thick, usually takes about 2 hours. Now, don't leave it because you will need to stir it but it should have a nice little crust around the edges and be really thick & yummy. |
